A very good looking colt from an exceptional family...

This Sea The Stars colt was purchased for 75,000 at the Goffs Orby Yearling sale of 2021. His dam, the Dutch Art mare Pure Art, reached a peak official rating of 99 in her 10-race career and was good enough to finish third in a Listed race at Newmarket over a mile-and-a-half as a three- year-old. She was a debut winner over 7f on the all-weather, and subsequently showed her versatility by winning on good-to-soft as well as producing her best effort in the Newmarket Listed race on good-to-firm.

Pure Art is a half-sister to the classy Romsdal, best known for finishing third behind our St Leger hero Kingston Hill in an above average renewal of the Derby in 2014, subsequently filling the runner-up spot in the Leger itself. Although he didn't win at Group level Romsdal was only beaten a nose in the Chester Vase and also handled the all-weather surface well when taking a Listed race at Kempton over 10 furlongs.

The colt's sire Sea The Stars was an elite racehorse who has gone on to be a high-class producer at stud. His only previous runner produced on the Dutch Art cross is a winner, and he has been represented by the top class miler Baaeed and Derby & St Leger runner up Mojo Star in his three-year-old crop in 2021. Roger has had top-level success with Sea The Stars' daughter Teona this season, as well winning the Lingfield Derby Trial with his son Third Realm. He also trained Hadaatha to finish third in the Group 1 Prix de l'Opera on only her fourth start.

“We were delighted to be able to secure this son of Sea The Stars for only €75,000. He is a very good looking colt from an exceptional family and it is both a pleasure and a surprise to say that we can offer a colt of this quality to a Varian Racing syndicate.” RV
