One winner from one runner on the day for Varian Stable and Zachary Hickes showed his versatility when scoring on his first all-weather start this season

The low milage four-year-old has come into a league of his own this season since stepping up in trip and notches a first win over the St Leger distance at Wolverhampton this evening.

By 2014 Derby winner Australia, Zachary Hickes made good use of his stamina reserves tonight when out-staying the field under jockey Jack Mitchell. The pair raced prominently throughout and laid down a challenge turning for home. As soon as Zachary Hickes hit the front with a furlong and a half to go, he was not for catching and galloped valiantly all the way to the line to score by a length.

Zachary Hickes proved that he could also act on turf back in August when he got the better of subsequent winner, Arcturus Flame in an almighty battle to the line at Yarmouth on good to firm ground.

Congratulations to winning owners Quantum Leap Racing IV & Partner and to his groom Vicky Saunders.
