STRAWBERRI justifies favouritism and lands the spoils in the Bryn Gates Fillies' Novice Stakes.

Tough conditions made the going hard work for all, but STRAWBERRI put in a determined performance to score under Jack Mitchell and in doing so got off the mark at the third time of asking. Breaking from stall 9, Mitchell took up position behind the leaders of Siyata and Queen Zabeel. Keeping up with the front runners until the 2F marker, at which point Mitchell pressed and the filly got her chestnut head in front in the closing stages. The pressure mounted as the testing conditions made the final 110 yards a challenge. Strawberri kept on, maintaining her advantage and prevailed to land the prize for Oak Grove Stud.

Congratulations to the Deer family who bred the Gleneagles filly out of Altesse Imperiale. In particular to Jack Mitchell for his grit in challenging conditions, and was quoted as saying “The last furlong felt like the longest I have ever ridden”. Determination and perseverance was rewarded with the win and we look forward to seeing what more this well-bred filly can show this season in hopefully much kinder conditions.
