An impressive return to the track this season for three-time Juvenile winner LINE OF DEPARTURE, who relished the fast ground to coolly land the Listed British Stallion Studs EBF Cathedral Stakes at Salisbury on Sunday.

Holding out for more favourable conditions after the ground ruled out Line of Departure from the Commonwealth Cup trials proved a good decision today. Any questions were swiftly put to bed in an authoritative fashion by the son of Mehmas, who came back with a bang on his seasonal debut to land the Cathedral Stakes in style under David Egan. Breaking well from stall 1, Line of Departure travelled smoothly over the 6f course and distance, initially held up behind the leaders David Egan rode a confident race and took the opportunity to press up the running rail. Line of Departure quickened showing a striking turn of foot, making powerful strides along the inside. The only challenge came from the market favourite Khaadem from the Charlie Hills yard, who kept on down the centre of the track. A thrilling duel unfolded in the closing stages, but Line Of Departure prevailed pulling 2L clear, stamping his authority to claim the spoils.

Congratulations to winning connections and to David Egan for putting in a smart performance. After a good season as a juvenile last year, it looks like he will progress further in his 3YO campaign.

“He looks quite an exciting colt for the summer ahead and would be deserving to take his chance in some nicer races. We'll get him home and speak with owners Shaikh Nasser and Fawzi Nass and carefully think of the next step. He deserves ambitious plans though." - RV
