The son of Smart Strike made a promising debut when sixth behind Midterm at Newbury last October and improved on that effort to win in smooth fashion under Andrea Atzeni.

Drawn wider that ideal in stall 12, Andrea was keen to establish a good early position and Shabeeb relaxed nicely on the heels of the leaders.

He was well positioned when the pacesetters quickened and Shabeeb picked up readily under pressure. He struck the lead inside the final furlong and won going away by a length and a quarter.

Roger said: "Shabeeb has done it nicely. He is a big colt who is going to get better as the year goes on. He stays well and a mile and a half should be well within his compass."
