Rapid Advanced stepped up considerably on his recent debut at Leicester to finish runner-up to the highly regarded Warrior of Light in the mile maiden.

Saeed Suhail's colt still showed signs of greeness throughout but came with a late rattle under Tom Queally to be denied by just a length.

Later in the day, Sporting Gold ran well to finish third in the 1m4f handicap. Alan Spence's four-year-old was drawn in 14 of 14 and had to endure a wide passage throughout. He ran on strongly up the straight and almost got up for second.

Roger said: "Rapid Advance couldn't lift a leg in the heavy ground at Leicester and he looked much more at home on a faster surface.

"Sporting Gold was another who didn't handle heavy ground on his last start and he has run well from a poor draw. He should be winning again soon."
