ROBERT WALPOLE gained a first career success at Southwell when passing the whole field in the 1m MansionBet Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap on Thursday afternoon.

Ridden by Callum Shepherd, Robert Walpole was not the best away when the stalls opened, and subsequently was at the rear of the field. However, Shepherd did not panic and bided his time while the early leaders set a strong gallop.

As the leaders faltered, Shepherd came with a sustained run down the stands' side, and he and Robert Walpole hit the front in the final furlong to record a neck success from Love Your Work.

A gelded son of Golden Horn out of Whazzat, Robert Walpole was only having his fifth career start, and second since joining the yard. Hopefully the lightly raced five-year-old can continue to improve. Many congratulations to winning owners The Gredley Family and everyone involved in the yard.
