The son of Oasis Dream, now four, raced only once as a three-year-old but had shown promise at home and his owner's patience was rewarded with a victory last night.

He stepped up on his recent course fifth to wear down the long-time leader and favourite Dark Shot to win by a length and a half.

Andrea always looked to be travelling strongly aboard Raising Sand and he picked up nicely and won going away.

Roger said: "Raising Sand is a big horse - he has shown speed at home and it's good to see him get his head in front. It wasn't the strongest of maidens but he has hit the line strongly and done it nicely.
