Owned by Mr Saif Ali, Shargiah supplemented his Windsor victory from earlier in the month with a smooth length and a half success over the Anthony McCann-trained Pushaq, kick-starting a treble on the card for the in-form Andrea Atzeni.

Settled in second off a sedate early gallop, Shargiah travelled smoothly into the straight and poked his nose front entering the final quarter mile.

Challengers loomed on either flank, but Andrea did not have to get too serious with Shargiah, who asserted his authority inside the final furlong and proved firmly in command come the line.

Roger said: “Shargiah is a progressive individual who gets this trip will. He shapes as if he will be suited by further in time and Andrea had him beautifully positioned with gallop proving a slow one. He should continue to improve with time and racing.”
