A course and distance winner at the Dante Meeting, Barsanti had acquitted himself creditably in Listed company since, twice filling the frame without having his optimum conditions on either occasion.

However, the return to handicap company worked the oracle for Sheikh Mohammed Obaid’s son of Champs Elysees, who defied the welter burden of nine stone ten to register his fourth win of the campaign.

Settled towards the rear of the field by Andrea Atzeni, Barsanti travelled with his usual zest entering the home straight, skipping off the quick ground despite the rain continuing to fall.

He was produced to lead inside the two but persistent challengers loomed large on either flank. However, Barsanti showed great bravery to repel the closers in a thrilling three-way finish that befitted a handicap of this stature.

In doing so he provided Andrea with his fourth victory of the week, cementing his place at top of the leading riders’ table, while it was the second win of the meeting for the team following on from Postponed's incredible success in the International on Wednesday.

Roger said: “Barsanti continues to improve and this trip on fast ground really suit him. He’s given plenty of weight to some progressive rivals here, and I suspect the form will prove solid with the right horses coming to the fore.

“He has a tremendous attitude, showing great guts in the finish. I suspect we will return to stakes company now.”
