Willie John made a successful start in the yellow and black-spotted silks of Sheikh Mohammed Obaid having been purchased at the February Horses-In-Training Sale as a once-raced novice winner, travelling smoothly upped in trip to ten furlongs before pulling clear in the closing stages to beat the more experienced pair of Hidden Depths and Scaramanga by a facile five lengths.
The son of Dansili, who hails from a magnificent Meon Valley Stud family that has Group 1 winners littered throughout his page, was allocated an official rating of 100 on the back of this win and a step up in class now beckons.
Laugh A Minute also impressed with the way he landed the four-runner conditions race over six furlongs, quickening up past two useful yardsticks in Top Score and Ice Age to win going away by a length and a quarter.
The son of Mayson was running for the first time since undergoing a gelding operation and he looks an improved performer on the back of the procedure, with an official rating of 109 likely to mean he is returned to stakes company on his next outing.
Roger said: “Willie John and Laugh A Minute are nice horses who won their respective assignments in pleasing fashion. Both will now tackle something better, although their future targets remain undecided for now.”
