A smart performance from Shadwell's Khuzaam in the seven-furlong Conditions race at Chelmsford this evening looks to have set him up nicely for a tilt at All-Weather Championships finals day on Good Friday.

The newly-gelded five-year-old was racing at a trip this short for the first time in his nine-race career, and despite the extra test of speed he could be clearly noted travelling powerfully throughout under Jack Mitchell. Having hit the front coming out of the bend into the straight Khuzaam was always doing enough to maintain his advantage over the progressive Highland Dress in second, with All-Weather specialist Ambassadorial making this look solid Conditions race form by finishing third.

Having been collared close home in Listed races on his three most recent racecourse appearances it was great to get Khuzaam's head back in front this evening, and we would hope the run will have blown away the few remaining cobwebs before the Mile Championships at Lingfield in early April.

Congratulations to his owner Hamdan Al Maktoum, who bred Khuzaam out of a half-sister to his 1,000 Guineas winner Ghanaati.
