Raammee provides Roger Varian with a third victory in the John Smith's Cup at York

Raammee had a stellar start to his career last season and was unbeaten in both of his three-year-old races. He shaped as if he needed the run on his four-year-old debut at Sandown back in May and showed significant improvement when finishing a closing second back over course and distance last time out.

The John Smith's Cup at York this afternoon posed a significantly harder challenge with 22 runners in the field but the four-year-old gelding by Persian King definitely rose to the occasion. Raammee raced predominantly in mid-field under jockey Ray Dawson and showed an explosive turn of foot down the outside galloping all the way to the line.

Congratulations to winning owner Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum, regular rider Joe Scally & groom Stephen Edgar.
