The four-year-old gelding by Persian King provides Roger with a third John Smith's Cup for Roger Varian
Raammee had a stellar start to his racing career last season and was unbeaten in both of his three-year-old starts. He shaped as if he needed the run on his four-year-old debut at Sandown back in May and showed significant improvement when finishing a closing second back over course and distance last time out.
The John Smith's Cup at York this afternoon posed a significantly harder challenge with 22 runners in the field. Raammee raced predominantly in mid-division under jockey Ray Dawson and showed an explosive turn of foot down the outside to hit the front with 1 furlong and was not for catching galloping all the way to the line.
Congratulations to winning owner Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum, regular rider Joe Scally & groom Stephen Edgar.
Unexposed 4yo Raammee plunders Europe's most valuable handicap, the £200,000 John Smith's Cup.
