SOUND ANGELA made it look easy this evening at Kempton, showing improvement from her debut run at Newmarket in October to land the prize in the Try Our New Price Boosts At Unibet Restricted Maiden Stakes (Bands C And D) (GBB Race) (Div II). It was a double off the mark as the win also marked a first victory in the UK for French jockey Jefferson Smith.
Despite the wide draw in stall ten, SOUND ANGELA demonstrated she had learnt a lot from her debut performance. French jockey Jefferson Smith settled the filly in fourth tracking the leaders for the majority of the course and distance. Jefferson made the move in the closing stages, Sound Angela showing a striking turn of foot, powerfully gaining ground on the outside to hit the front inside the final furlong. Running on well to score 1 ¾ lengths ahead of second placed Al Qareem, and favourite Cuban Beat from the Hugo Palmer yard in third.
Congratulations to winning owner Yuichi Masuda and connections. An impressive performance from the Muhaarar filly in a race where class told in the end. Special mention to Jefferson Smith who rides the filly at home, understandably a happy man today claiming his first winner on British soil.
