Owned by Tactful Finance Limited, the daughter of Dawn Approach made a successful introduction over this course and distance in September, while she was narrowly denied in a similar type of event over the straight mile at Newcastle last week.

Running on strongly to get within a neck of fellow first-time-out scorer Trolius on that occasion, Ideological still looked green under pressure, but she showed the benefit of the further experience when travelling more smoothly than she has done previously before launching a challenge approaching the two-furlong marker.

Asked to stretch by David Egan, Ideological lowered nicely into her stride and she soon breezed past second favourite Sky Defender, who shaped like a non-stayer at the trip, while she was in little danger thereafter as the Hughie Morrison-trained debutant Robert L’Echelle stuck on to finish three and a half-lengths behind in second.

A homebred buy-back at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Ideological is a half-sister to the dual winner Dealer’s Choice, who Roger previously trained, while she is from a fine US family that includes the dam of G1 Prix Morny winner and current freshman sire sensation No Nay Never.

Roger said: “Ideological is a progressive filly who acts well on this surface and this was a pleasing performance under a penalty. She is a nice type moving forward and her pedigree suggests she ought to prove even better as a three-year-old.”
