Owned by Newsells Park Stud, Hermosita has a noteworthy pedigree page of her own, being a daughter of Exceed And Excel out of the Linamix mare Honorlina, herself a winning sister to Poule d’Essai des Poulains and Prix Jacques le Marois scorer Vahorimix.

While the exploits of her illustrious uncle remain someway down the line, Hermosita took the perfect first step on the road to attempted stardom when getting the better of Royal representative First Drive by a neck.

Having broken smartly from stall five, Hermosita travelled well under Andrea Atzeni and she picked up smartly when asked to challenge inside the final quarter mile, despite proving green off the bridle.

Although a field of 11 assembled for this opening contest, very few got into contention as juvenile inexperience took its toll and Hermosita looked to be always doing enough inside the final furlong, with the Dean Ivory-trained Eirene the only exception to the rule as she flew late to snatch third on the line.

Hermosita became our fourth two-year-old winner from five individual runners this season as she continued the team's healthy strike-rate for 2017, with our record now standing at 40 winners from 145 runners at a success rate of 28%.

Roger said: “Hermosita is a filly I like and this was a most promising start as she travelled well and picked up nicely off the bridle.

“We will see how she comes out of this race before making a plan moving forward, so while she could have her sights raised, the extension of the new novice programme will allow us to keep her campaign more low-key in the short-term should we wish to do so.”
