Sheikh Ahmed's colt made it a Stakes-race double for the team following Postponed's emphatic victory in the Group 2 City Of Gold at Meydan (see separate story).

Haalick, a son of Roderic O'Connor, failed to fire on his final start of 2015 but showed that to have been a 'blip' winning this AW Championships fast-track qualifier in style under Jack Mitchell.

He broke slowly from the stalls and was settled towards the rear. The pace wasn't particulary strong and it was clear Jack was going to need luck on his side when they entered the straight.

As expected it was a messy finish but Haalick bravely split runners and burst clear inside the final furlong to win by a length and a quarter.

Roger said: "That was great. He is a colt we really liked last season so I'm pleased he has but his poor Newmarket run behind him.

"The surface has clearly suited him and luckily the splits came when he needed them. He has hit the line strong which suggests that the mile for the 3yo Championships on Good Friday shouldn't pose a problem for him."
