A few hours earlier, Mushir had also made it two from two at York and Kingston Hill was not to be outdone by his stable mate.

The Paul Smith-owned colt was also stepping up from his debut win and again he overcame greenness to score under Andrea Atzeni.

Andrea settled him towards the rear where he raced slightly in snatches. Once switched between runners, he picked up strongly to take the lead approaching the final furlong.

He idled a little in front but victory was never in doubt and he won by two lengths.

Roger said: "He was going from a maiden to a Group race. He had to step up but I thought he did it really well. It's nice to go into winter with a horse of potential."

Kingston Hill wins at Newmarket.
