GREAT KING goes one better than his previous run at Redcar at the end of September last year and breaks his maiden on his 3YO debut in the Quinnbet Live Casino Maiden Stakes.

A wind op over the winter seems to have agreed with the Shamardal colt, who more than proved his worth over the 7f all-weather at Newcastle. Breaking well from stall five, Great King strode out prominently in the early stages. Jockey Rossa Ryan keeping Great King up on the pace of the leading pack, chasing the leaders until the closing stages. At the 1F marker Ryan asked for more and Great King showed an impressive turn of foot, scorching away inside the final furlong to a 3 or 4 length lead. Ranchero and Badlands tried to close the gap, but they were no match for the Shamardal colt, who was away and gone securing a 5L win ahead of the John and Thady trained Ranchero in second.

Congratulations to AMO RACING and connections. In particular to the in-form Rossa Ryan for putting in a professional winning performance and with it secured a double on the day. Great King remains an exciting prospect and will certainly be one to watch as he progresses to handicap company.
