The son of Mastercraftsman carries the Kingston Hill colours of Paul Smith and looks a progressive colt based on this first win.

He has improved with each start to date and defied an opening mark of 79. Jockey Andrea Atzeni settled his mount towards the rear and he has travelled strongly.

Due to the soft going, the runners edged across the the stand's rail and Andrea made smooth headway on the near side of the pack.

He moved through to take up the running with over a furlong to run and held on gamely under pressure to win by a short head.

Roger said: "Gibbs Hill has shaped with promise in maidens and we felt he could be competitive off this mark in handicaps. He is a big colt who should improve with racing."
