A super Saturday with a double on the day and a notable seasonal debut by LANEQASH in the Group 2 BetVictor Hungerford Stakes.

Shadwell’s LANEQASH returned to the track in style at Newbury this afternoon, putting in a smart performance under Dane O’Neil, claiming runner up whilst in competitive company. A promising result for Laneqash, who proved he relishes a quicker surface as he continued to make steady headway from two furlongs out. Despite losing a shoe, Laneqash kept on in the closing stages, chasing the eventual winner Sacred under Tom Marquand for the William Haggas yard. An Ascot Maiden winner on debut and narrowly beaten in Listed company, it is evident this son of Cablebay is an exciting prospect.

PAPACITO got the ball rolling for the winners of the day, justifying favouritism the 3YO colt landed the Cazoo Novice Stakes in an impressive fashion under Andrea Atzeni. The tally goes up to two from two for the son of Estidhkaar, returning to the track in flying form on the back of a debut win at Salisbury back in June. Papacito travelled well over the 6f trip, running close up on the heels of the leaders until the final furlong when Atzeni asked for more. Riding the colt out to the lead inside the last, only facing a challenge from the Mehmas filly, Rabat, down the outside. Papacito held on with some in hand to put the race to bed half a length ahead of Rabat in second. Completing the double on the day for Andrea Atzeni.

The doubles kept coming, as it was not long until MS GANDHI had her turn on the track, landing the spoils in the William Hill Pick Your Places Handicap under Eoin Walsh and completing the double on the day for the team. Progressive in her first four starts the Kingman filly looked a touch keen in the early stages. Walsh settled her close up on the leaders and she continued to travel well the further the race progressed. Walsh switched the filly left in the closing stages, allowing the filly to open up and shoot away when it mattered, finishing well on top at the line.

Congratulations to all our winning owners. A successful day for the team and certainly some exciting progressive types to look out for the rest of the season.
