A very promising start to the year continued into February with the very progressive Father Of Jazz completing a hat-trick for his owners Bill and Tim Gredley.

Father Of Jazz had already contributed to the yard's record of seven winners from 18 domestic runners in January when a comfortable winner of a Chelmsford novice under a penalty, and confirmed his clear promise by sauntering away with this small-field handicap at Lingfield's all-weather track.

Having been given an opening mark of 90 after showing plenty of ability in three runs in novice & maiden company Father Of Jazz faced much more experienced and streetwise rivals on this occasion, and although the challenge was not numerically strong the small field presented a potentially awkward tactical scenario. As it panned out there were no such concerns, and with Oslo and Society Red ensuring a nice, even pace for Callum Shepherd to settle Father Of Jazz off, once they turned for home the in-form rider was able to ask his mount to quicken away and the response was more than enough to settle matters almost immediately.

Having taken this rise in grade in his stride it's certain that tougher tests await, either off a revised mark or in open company. Father Of Jazz holds a G3 Winter Derby entry and is also now qualified for All-Weather Championships finals day on Good Friday, and both races will come under consideration. Wherever he heads next he is an exciting horse to look forward to.

Congratulations to his owners, and to Callum for continuing to give him an excellent education.
