The daughter of Exceed And Excel, owned by Cheveley Park Stud, got up on the line to nail the short-priced favourite Swiss Affair by a nose.

She had raced prominently having broken well from stall three in the middle of the track. Swiss Affair had secured the 'golden highway' up the stand's rail and set a brisk tempo up front.

With two furlongs left to run, jockey Andrea Atzeni moved Effectual to Swiss Affair's girth and the pair went head to head for the final furlong.

It was only with 20 yards to go that victory looked likely and it was on the 'bob' as the crossed they line. Fortunately the photo went in our favour.

Roger said: "We thought that the Gosden filly would be hard to beat but we have always liked Effectual and she ran well on her only start last year.

"She didn't have the best of draws but she has shown plenty of speed and a great attitude. She is quite highly strung at home and her regular rider Trine has done a really good job."
