Goodwood may have been more low-key for the yard than in previous years but the lightly-raced Aktau ensured there was at least one major positive to take from the five days on the downs.

The three-year-old Teofilo gelding had shown plenty of ability in three novice runs at ten furlongs, and the exploits of those who finished around him combined with the promise of more to come up in trip ensured he was sent off favourite for Friday's finale. Having travelled powerfully in rear under a confident- looking Andrea, Aktau swept to the front in the style of a well-handicapped horse, even managing to do what had seemed imposible all week in holding off a strong-finishing Mark Johnston inmate. His options include a potential trip to the Knavesmire for the Melrose handicap later this month.

It was a case of one exciting prospect to another at Chelmsford on Saturday with King Power's Dear Power an eyecatching debutant winner over the sharp six furlongs. An Acclamation filly who has always shown plenty in her work, she was the first of the owners' runners for the stable and she appears to be a lovely prospect for them to look forward to as a three-year-old. A special mention to her pilot Jack Mitchell who racked up a treble on the day, including his second success from two rides on Hamdan Al Maktoum's Carlburg inmate Mutamaasik.
