Things have not always gone the way of the son of Shirocco and, despite countless good performances, until yesterday he had just a Haydock maiden victory to his name.

That saying, Mijhaar had shown that he has plenty of ability most notably when narrowly beaten in the Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot last June.

Jockey Andrea Atzeni made every yard of the running aboard the 6/1 chance and victory never looked in doubt. He had all his rivals off the bridle with three furlongs to run and kept on galloping to record a two-length victory.

Roger said: "He got the trip well and always looked like winning. He hovered around a mark of 102/103 all last year but he will probably go up now and depending what the handicapper does he will either go for top-end handicaps or follow the Pattern route."

Mijhaar, near side, works on the Limekilns this spring.
