The son of Lope De Vega won his maiden impressively at Yarmouth before showing his inexperience when fourth in the  July Stakes.

He looked to be crying out for seven furlongs that day and this race, restricted to horses sired by stallions who won over ten furlongs or further, looked ideal.

Jockey Andrea Atzeni took a lead aboard Belardo and he travelled supremely well.

Andrea kicked for home and Belardo showed a smart turn of foot to hit the front with over a furlong to run.

He put the race to bed in a matter of strides and powered clear to win by nearly four lengths.

Roger said: "Belardo is a lovely colt. We have always liked him a lot and he was impressive today.

"He has plenty of big entries this autumn and we shall see how he comes out of this before deciding on a target."

Belardo wins easily at Newbury this afternoon.
