HRH Sultan Ahman Shah's colt was given a terrific ride by Andrea Atzeni, who produced his mount to win on the line.

Returning from a break, Battersea raced keenly in the early stages but Andrea saved ground the whole way, settling him on the rail towards the rear.

He was caught on heels turning in but Andrea kept to the brave man's route and Battersea picked up well when the gaps came.

He hit full stride inside the closing stages and got up in the shadows of the post to win by a short head.

Roger said: "That was great - I was worried during the race as he was quite fresh - but he has hit the line strong. He has always been a colt with lots of ability and hopefully this success can act as a springboard for his 2016 season."

Andrea said: "He is a good horse. I always felt as though I would get there and he has done it well."
