A battle to the line at Salisbury Racecourse sees EMBESTO and Mighty Ulysses share the spoils as they dead heat in the G3 Sovereign Stakes!

Dancing Magic set a reasonable early pace, with market-leaders EMBESTO and John & Thady Gosden's Mighty Ulysses settled in behind. 3f from home the duo lifted the pace, leaving Dancing Magic in their wake, and the tussle to the line began. Mighty Ulysses appeared to have the advantage, but EMBESTO was not to be denied. A driving ride from David Egan saw the son of Roaring Lion deliver one final late surge to make it a thrilling photo finish to the G3 contest. After several minutes, the judge failed to split them and a dead-heat was called - the first since the race's institution in 2000.

This marks a first G3 success for the Sheikh Ahmed owned colt, who has been in great form this season - finding only Nostrum too strong in the Listed Henry Cecil Stakes last time out.

Jockey David Egan said "I love this horse. I do a lot of his work at home and Jack Tidby, who looks after him, idolises him.

"He's a lovely horse and was beaten last time by what I think is a superstar in Nostrum, who might not have had conditions to suit when he was beaten at Goodwood recently.

"He's still a horse of the highest grade and Embesto is getting there."

Of the tight finish, Egan added: "Between the three and two-furlong pole I felt I had the better of Oisin, but his horse picked up and went a neck ahead. I really liked my lad's attitude though and he was grinding at the line."

Congratulations to Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum.
