A successful day on Wednesday with a two from two at Chelmsford for Varian Stable. JUMAIRA BAY kicked things off nicely with a victory in the Ministry Of Sound Classical 21st August Handicap under Jack Mitchell setting a new course record in the process. Shadwell’s MONTATHER completed the double on the day for both the team and Jack Mitchell, putting in a striking performance making ground almost from last to first to land the spoils in the Racing With Pride Handicap.

Having not run his race in the Victoria Cup when prominent in the market, Jumaira Bay bounced back in no uncertain manner. Breaking from stall 1 Jack Mitchell settled JUMAIRA BAY towards the rear of midfield, finding himself slightly short of room Mitchell switched right still with plenty to do over 1F out. Having tracked the leaders such as the Michael Appleby trained Asad, The son of Siyouni began to make his move in the closing stages, manoeuvring to the outside to get a clear run. Once out in the open the gelding quickened up began to make headway to take the lead in the final strides to win comfortably, denying the market favourite Acquitted a comfortable 1 ¾ L behind in second.

Congratulations to winning connections A & R Al Kambda and to Jack Mitchell for the win and in record time. The Siyouni gelding will improve from the run and hold an exciting entry later on in the season.

Son of Dubawi MONTATHER continued his winning form following up with an impressive performance in the Racing With Pride Handicap. Despite being held up in the rear, Montather displayed a striking turn of foot to come from behind to deny the long-time leader Bright Start. Montather justified favouritism having really stepped forward in his seasonal Debut making it three from four. A thrilling duel transpired and the pair battled it out to the line Bright Start took some catching but Montather prevailed claiming the victory by a short head.

Congratulations to all involved, to Shadwell Estate co. and to Jack Mitchell for putting to bed a duo of wins! Both horses are well-bred and will come on from the run after a period of time off for both of them. We look forward to seeing what more these two horses can go on to offer.
