Drawn widest of all in stall 14 and sacrificing the opportunity to race handily with a tardy start, Zamandas appeared to have limited prospects of getting involved in the thick of things passing through half-way, but switched to the outside on the turn for home and galvanised by an in-form Andrea, the three-year-old picked up willingly inside the final quarter mile to win by going away by a length with something to spare.

The victory continued the fine recent run of Varian Stable runners, with Jamil having ploughed through testing conditions twenty-four hours earlier to notch his second win in three starts in the 1m novice at Hamilton on Sunday.

The similarly-progressive Game Player also took his career tally to two wins when landing a competitive 7f handicap at Newmarket on Saturday, the son of Dark Angel quickening up nicely under Kieran Shoemark to win by a length.

With over 30 entries across what promises to be an action-weekend, we hope the good form can continue apace as October looms large.
