Rasima blooms bright in Fleur De Lys

Thu 01 Nov 2018

RASIMA showed a bright turn of foot to quicken clear on the turn for home and make the most of her well-crafted track position when opening her account at Listed level in the Fleur De Lys Fillies’ Stakes at Lingfield on Thursday afternoon.

Owned by Nurlan Bizakov and a homebred from his Hesmonds Stud, Rasima had twice occupied the runner-up position in black-type company earlier in the year, firstly when getting within a length and three quarters of Smart Call in the G3 Hoppings Stakes at Newcastle in June and latterly when chasing home stable companion Sheikha Reika in the Listed John Musker Stakes at Yarmouth in September.

Returned to an artificial surface and dropped back to a mile, Rasima broke alertly from stall eleven under David Egan and she was able to tuck into a handy position in fifth as stable companion Shenanigans sat second from the widest draw of all in stall twelve.

Red-hot favourite Move Swiftly was dropped out last by James Doyle as the early gallop proved no more than even and he was forced to circumnavigate the twelve-strong field rounding the home bend as a number of the line-up struggled to quicken, while Rasima proved ideally placed to take an emerging gap and scoot clear with less than two furlongs left to run.

Move Swiftly gave game chase down the outside in the closing stages but she could not pick up with enough verve to reel in the leader and the margin was a comfortable length and a quarter at the line, with Rasima securing her second victory in eleven outings having also landed a Nottingham handicap over this trip in May.

A daughter of Iffraaj, Rasima is out of a winning own-sister to G1 Pretty Polly Stakes heroine Chinese White, while this is the further family of G1 Prix de Diane winner Rafha, herself the dam of super-sires Invincible Spirit and Kodiac.

Roger said: “I probably made a mistake backing Rasima up quickly after her good second to our subsequent G1 EP Taylor winner Sheikha Reika. She's done the job well down to this mile from a mile and a half. I'm really delighted she has gained this Listed win after two seconds as she is a home-bred first foal for Mr Bizakov. She has been highly-tried through the year and deserved this.”
