Professional Nabeyla breaks maiden in style

Wed 20 Feb 2019

After a typically quiet winter period for the yard Nabeyla livened up proceedings in eye-catching fashion when breaking her maiden at the first time of asking in the fillies’ novice at Wolverhampton on Tuesday evening.

Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum’s filly showed she possesses a fine temperament as well as plenty of ability, breaking alertly and taking up an ideal position on the shoulder of the leader under rider Oisin Murphy, before moving into the lead turning for home with the minimum of fuss. The remainder of the race proved something of a procession for the daughter of New Approach, with the way she cleared away from her 11 rivals in the final two furlongs to win by six lengths putting those with a sectional timing interest on high alert.

A homebred by Derby winner and Derby-winning sire New Approach, Nabeyla is the first foal of the Group 3 UAE Oaks second Feedyah, herself a half-sister to the Listed-placed Red Mist from the family of Islington.

Roger said: “Nabeyla has always been a filly who has shown promise at home. It’s pleasing to see her transfer that ability she’s shown in her home work to the track.”
