Partnered by Champion Apprentice David Egan and breaking from stall 11, the daughter of Nathaniel was able to obtain a prominent pitch heading into the first bend and despite running green at times down the back straight, she moved nicely into contention on the turn for home.

Long-time leader and Cheshire Oaks fourth Shailene looked to have stolen a march on her eleven rivals at the two-furlong marker, but as her stride began to wilt in the closing stages it was Pilaster who stayed on dourly to pick up the pieces, eventually winning by two lengths and going further clear after the line.

A half-sister to the St Leger third Windshear from a stout-staying family, Pilaster is bred to improve as her stamina is drawn out further across the course of the summer and she looks a nice prospect moving forward.

Roger said: “Pilaster showed her inexperience on her sole start as a two-year-old and she again ran green here, but David gave her a lovely ride from a potentially tricky draw and she’s won very comfortably in the end. She’ll stay at least 12f, probably further, and she could develop into a really nice filly.”
