Owned by Cheveley Park Stud, who on Friday broke their personal best for the number of winners in a calendar year when ratcheting up success number fifty-nine, Certificate became winner number sixty a little over twenty-four hours later, collecting a whisker over £62,000 to take his career earnings into six figures.

Racing off a 6lb higher mark than when successful at Doncaster a fortnight ago, Certificate broke well from a good draw in stall six and was perfectly positioned by Andrea as the field headed into the top bend.

As is customary for Goodwood, there was plenty of scrimmaging as the pace quickened coming down the hill, but Andrea managed to keep Certificate out of the ruckus and he had all bar one of his nineteen rivals beaten off as he swooped into the lead a furlong from home.

Suzi's Connoisseur was the only one to emerge from the pack with a serious chance of landing the spoils, but the line thankfully came in time for Certificate, who was posting a career best at the age of five.

Roger said: “I have been delighted with the way Certificate has progressed this season and I thought Andrea gave him a lovely ride here.

“He seems best over 7f, but is versatile in terms of ground, and while his new mark will be quite lofty for handicaps, I don’t think he would handicapped out of things. That said, we have the option of pitching him into stakes company now and he looks capable of winning at that level.

"Congratulations to Cheveley Park Stud - I am delighted Mrs Thompson was at the course to lead Certificate in!"
