A running-on fourth on his debut at Kempton, where he displayed clear signs of his inexperience throughout, Kaanoon took a sizeable step forward upped in trip with the run under his belt, travelling much more kindly through the early stages as the seven-runner field were taken along at a modest gallop by the Mark Johnston-trained Elegiac.

Warm favourite Move Swiftly, who was looking to preserve her unbeaten record having made a successful debut at Chelmsford in the autumn, came under pressure on the approach to the home turn and while Kaanoon began to find his stride it seemed as though Elegiac had stolen a march on his rivals with two furlongs left to run.

However, the penny continued to drop with Kaanoon, who warmed to his task in fine fashion to make a sustained late challenge inside the final furlong and pip Elegiac right on the line.

A 30,000 guineas yearling purchase from Book Two at Tattersalls, Kaanoon has stamina in the bottom half of his pedigree and he looks like he will stay middle-distances with little fuss moving forward.

Roger said: “Kaanoon has stepped forward nicely from his debut run and he will stay at least ten furlongs. It will be another novice now before looking to handicaps.”
