Following on from a fabulous across-the-card four-timer on Wednesday evening, Howman became our fifth winner from eight runners since the turn of the month when getting up close home under Andrea Atzeni in a thrilling to the four-runner feature.

Having won over this trip at Lingfield in June, the form of which has been boosted by the subsequent success of the runner-up, Howman entered the handicap ranks off an opening mark of 79 and he showed a pleasing level of improvement to mow down long-time leader Mashaheer in the shadows of the post having travelled nicely in second place through most of the contest.

A 450,000 guineas purchase from Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Howman is a Sea The Stars half-brother to G1 winner Lillie Langtry, herself the dam of the outstanding Minding, and he looks capable of further progress when faced with a stiffer test of stamina in due course.

Roger said: “Howman is steadily progressing and shapes like he will stay further. He is well suited by fast ground and should continue to remain competitive once his mark is reassessed.”
