Daahyeh set to go Stateside

Fri 01 Nov 2019

G2 Rockfel Stakes winner Daahyeh's American adventure reaches its climax tonight when she lines up in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Santa Anita.

A general 7/2 favourite for the race this morning, the filly has taken the journey and the new surroundings very well as she prepares to step up to the mile for the first time. The tight track and emphasis on speed will play to her strengths and she has been extremely consistent, from beating Raffle Prize on debut at Newmarket in May all the way through to her Rockfel success in late September.

18/05 - Fillies' Novice, 6f, Newmarket
1st of 9 (David Egan)

One of the most eye-catching novice winners pre-Royal Ascot, the form of her debut worked out incredibly well with the second, Raffle Prize, going on to win the G2 Queen Mary & G2 Duchess of Cambridge, as well as being placed in two G1s. An early marker which suggested there was plenty to look forward to...

21/06 - G3 Albany Stakes, 6f, Royal Ascot
1st of 25 (David Egan)

Roger's first Royal Ascot winner since Cursory Glance won the same race in 2014, and also David Egan's maiden success at the meeting. Sent off the 4/1f after Raffle Prize won the Queen Mary earlier in the week, the form may not be the strongest for a race of this calibre but she could be called the winner some way out having settled and travelled beautifully.

12/07 - G2 Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes, 6f, Newmarket (July)
2nd of 7 (David Egan)

The first defeat of Daahyeh's career but still a sound run behind Raffle Prize. The quick ground and track position Raffle Prize established made it very difficult for Daahyeh to quicken past her, and it proved to be a challenge too far on this occasion. Her unbeaten record was gone but her reputation was undented.

15/09 - G1 Moyglare Stakes, 7f, Curragh
2nd of 9 (William Buick)

After a nine-week break Daahyeh made her first appearance at Group 1 level, and was also up a furlong in trip. Racing in mid-division, she quickened up well but couldn't reel in the experienced Love, finishing an honourable second under new rider William Buick having run like she would come on for the run.

27/09 - G2 Rockfel Stakes, 7f, Newmarket
1st of 8 (William Buick)

Again sent off a short-price favourite once the decision was made to go here instead of the Cheveley Park, this time there was no mistake as she showed a smart turn of foot to hit the front and put the race to bed. The nearest challenger was stablemate Stylistique who finished with real purpose, but the bird had long since flown at that point. This run and the attributes she displayed hopefully confirmed her suitability for the test presented by the mile around Santa Anita!

Best of luck to the team out there in America including travelling head lad Sam Davis, groom Sandra Hentschel and work rider Matty Henry.
