Autumn Sale entry Imaginative off the mark at Pontefract

Mon 22 Oct 2018

TATTERSALLS Autumn Horses-In-Training Sale entry Imaginative provided a significant update to his catalogue credentials when breaking his maiden in tenacious fashion over 1m4f at Pontefract on Monday afternoon.

Owned by Alan Spence, the son of Camelot produced a career-best performance when finishing runner-up at Nottingham twelve days ago and he built on that form upped a further two furlongs in trip here, getting the better of promising Godolphin representative Gifts Of Gold following a sustained duel from the bottom of the hill.

The margin of victory was a length at the line, with Imaginative showing a willing attitude under the in-form Andrea Atzeni, who was completing a middle-leg of a treble on the afternoon when giving the three-year-old a pitch-perfect ride having been forced to hold his position on the turn for home.

A 100,000 guineas yearling purchase at Book Two of the October Yearling Sale in 2016, Imaginative is from a high-quality US family that includes Grade 1 middle-distance winners Menifee and Desert Wine, and he looks capable of further improvement as his stamina continues to be eked out further down the line.

Roger said: “Imaginative boasts a progressive profile and he handled these conditions well. I think he is just the sort who will continue to thrive now he has got his head in front and we certainly haven’t seen the best of him yet.”
